You wouldn't think...

You wouldn't think taking stitches out of a child would be harder than putting them in, would you?  Unless maybe the people who put them in knew you were hopping on a plane and there was no way they were going to be expected to take those stitches back out...Maybe?
When the pediatrician got a good look at the stitches around Katie's eye, she said, "Wow, those are tight stitches."  What did the doctor in the ER (yes, that's right: the ER) say when she got a look at those same stitches?  Yeah, basically the same thing.  Those stitches were in good.
Katie had an appointment with the pediatrician to remove her stitches Monday morning.  Three hours and some Versed later, she was finally stitches-free!  Let me break it down for you:
10 AM - Arrive at the doctor's office
10:15 - See doctor
10:16-10:30 - Doctor tries to remove stitches.  Succeeds in removing bottom 2, with Mom holding legs & body, & nurse holding head, while Katie screams, "I want to be done!" or "I want to give my Mommy a hug!"
10:32 - Give Katie fruit snacks to help calm her down and head to ER, where doctor has called ahead to inform of too-tight-stitches-and-distraught-child problem.
10:35 - Call Tyce on cell phone while driving (though I'd like to point out I do not condone such behavior!) to ask him to meet me in the ER to get Ivy and probably then to pick Nathan up from school.
10:45-11:00 - Check in at ER.  Pass Ivy to Tyce.  Get shown to room.
11:30-ish -  Meet ER doctor.  Find out it was a mistake to give Katie fruit snacks.  Must wait 2 hours from giving of fruit snacks to administer Versed.
11:30-12:30 - Watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse in ER room while we wait.
12:30 - Katie gets Versed in cherry syrup.
12:31 - Katie wants a drink of water to get bad after-taste out of her mouth.
12:32 - Give Katie a drink of water, apparently not having a brain in head at the moment.
12:33 - Remember Katie cannot have food or drink.  Take cup away.
12:34 - Katie cries about bad taste.
12:35 - Katie stops crying.  She can no longer sit up reliably & has a goofy smile on her face.  Help her lie down while she watches so she won't fall off the bed.
1:00 - ER doctor comes with 2 nurses.
1:02 - Hold Katie while doctor removes stitches.  Limp & sluggish Katie's resistance is futile.  Success.
1:10 - Katie refuses to lie down.  Watch her almost fall off the chair she demanded sitting in.  Hold her upright.
1:20 - Get discharged from ER.  Carry Katie to the car while she complains in a slurred voice that she wants to walk.
1:22 - Set Katie on pavement while unlocking car.  Watch her stagger and slump to ground--where she stays like a limp rag.
1:25 - Answer cell phone.  Listen to Tyce's suggestion to take Katie out to lunch.  Smile.  Hang up.  Head home.
1:30 - Carry Katie inside.  Take funny video of drugged Katie staggering around living room--don't feel guilty about it because effects should wear off by 2:30.
3 days later - Write incredibly long post about the experience.  Laugh.

p.s. The beginning of this post should not be construed as criticism of the kind people in the ER who got stitches in Katie fast enough for Tyce & Kate to catch the plane.  Bless them.
